THE SUMMER JAM YOU NEED: “LIL BABY” BY ANNE DEREAUX
Nashville native Anne Dereaux teamed up with New Zealand producer Soraya LaPread on her dazzling song “Lil Baby.” This track made it onto Dereaux’s Book of Lolita EP, released last summer.
If this summer beat sounds familiar, it’s probably because you have heard its bones before. Made famous by its inclusion in the soundtrack for the film O Brother, Where Art Though?, this lullaby-field holler-folk song has never had a rendition quite like the one Dereaux and LaPread bring us on “Lil Baby.”
Not only can Anne Dereaux kill it on the vocals on any given track, but she also spends her days as an architectural designer. Her background in architecture informs her other creative processes: singing and songwriting. Each one of her songs is layered, complex, and multidimensional. Her Book of Lolita EP dives deep into heartbreak, anxiety, and achievement.

You’re going to want to play this track whether you are cruising down the PCH with the top down or on a crowded, sweaty subway in New York City. While the original tune can lull you to sleep, this upbeat, flirty chop by Anne Dereaux and Soraya LaPread will light up any room.
